Pergola canopies

Shade tuned to your facade and your sun.

A pergola lives or dies by two numbers — rafter spacing and rafter angle. We measure both on a clear afternoon at your address before we build. The result is shade that lands where you actually sit, not where the catalogue diagram said it should.

Three pergola formats

Attached terrace pergola

Bolted to your wall plate or facade. Most common format. Typical 3 × 4 m from RM 14,200.

Freestanding pergola walkway

Four to eight posts, no wall fixings. Used to link house to garden building. From RM 16,800.

Louvred / motorised top

Adjustable louvre slats with hand crank or 24V motor. From RM 38,400 for a 3 × 4 m unit.

Slat-shadow tuning

Rafter pitch chosen for your sun azimuth. No extra charge — we just visit on a sunny day.

Build details

What goes into a pergola that doesn’t sag.

  • Posts: 140 × 140 mm chengal or balau, on hidden post anchors
  • Beams: 75 × 200 mm, lap-jointed and through-bolted
  • Rafters: 50 × 100 mm at 350 mm centres for shade balance
  • Optional integrated drip line for hanging plants
  • Optional concealed wiring for festoon or downlight strip
  • Optional retractable shade fabric for full-coverage afternoons

Climbing plants and vines

About a third of our pergolas have a climbing plant in mind from day one. We pre-fit eye-bolts on the rafters and along the beam at standard climber-friendly intervals, with an optional copper-tape spacer to keep aggressive vines from working into the joints.

Our standby pairing is a slow-growing wisteria for shade and a single bougainvillea for colour. We’re happy to liaise with your landscape designer at no charge.

Sensible questions

Can I retrofit a louvred top later?

If we know at design stage, we’ll build the beam to take a future louvre kit — adds about RM 1,200 to the original quote, saves RM 6,000+ at retrofit time.

Will it leak in heavy rain?

A standard slatted pergola is intended to filter sunlight, not block rain. For dry-shelter use, choose the louvred top or specify a retractable rain canopy at quote time.

How is it fixed to my wall?

For attached pergolas we install a galvanised steel wall plate, gasketted and through-bolted into structural masonry. We never rely on facade plaster as a fixing surface.
