Octagonal pavilions

The signature pavilion for small wedding lawns.

An eight-sided pavilion is what we’re commissioned for when the structure has to work as a venue. Forty standing, twenty-four seated, room for a string quartet and a flower arch — and it still holds a quiet supper for six on a Tuesday evening.

The two octagonal sizes we hold timber for

Lawn 4.6 m

Twenty-four seated, thirty standing. From RM 52,400 in chengal with cedar shingles.

Estate 5.6 m

Forty seated, sixty standing. From RM 78,800. Stocked grey clay tile available.

Custom > 5.6 m

We’ve gone up to 7.4 m once, for a resort in Janda Baik. Lead time twelve weeks.

Hand-carved finial

Optional carved teak finial, finished to your sketch. RM 1,400 — RM 4,800 depending on detail.

Engineering

Eight posts is more than just “a wider hexagon”.

The eight-sided geometry means the roof centre carries less single-point load, which lets us span further without internal bracing. That’s why an octagonal pavilion always reads more open inside than a hexagonal one of similar diameter.

  • 180 × 180 mm chengal posts, raised on cast-bronze anchors
  • Eight ridge segments converging on a turned hardwood drum + finial
  • Reinforced compression ring sized for chandelier loads to 38 kg
  • Optional perimeter drainage gutter, concealed behind the eave
  • Marine-grade penetrating oil with UV inhibitors, two-coat finish

Logistics for venue installs

Most octagonal pavilions are delivered in five segments and assembled on a prepared concrete pad or stone plinth. We coordinate cleanly with venue staff and can stagger works around event calendars — the Estate-size pavilion at Tanarimba was installed across four non-consecutive weeks to avoid wedding bookings.

We’ll handle authority paperwork for installations on permitted land, including Form K11 submissions where applicable.

Frequently asked

Can I have a custom hand-carved finial?

Yes — bring us a sketch or a reference photo. Our carver works in seasoned teak; quotes are typically returned within a week with a wax-pencil mock-up.

How quickly can a venue installation move?

From signed quote to handover, plan twelve to fourteen weeks for a 5.6 m Estate pavilion. We can compress to nine weeks if shingle stock allows, with a small expedite fee.

What about ceiling fans for guest comfort?

The compression ring is rated for a single 152 cm sweep fan or a chandelier to 38 kg. For larger venues we recommend pairing the pavilion with discreet perimeter pole fans rather than overloading the centre.

Designing a venue space?

Tell us about the events the pavilion will host. We’ll size it for the busiest weekend, not the average.
