A small workshop, deliberately

We won’t build everything. We build the things we’re good at — properly.

TheStar365 began in 2014 as a side project between two cabinetmakers who wanted timber in Malaysian gardens to look the same on year ten as on day one. Today the team is eleven craftspeople, four CNC routers, one drying kiln, and a yard full of FSC-certified hardwood.

  • Chengal, balau and merbau as default — no painted softwood shortcuts.
  • Mortise & tenon joinery on every load-bearing post.
  • Site survey, kiln-dried prep and hand-finishing on every project.
  • One project manager from quote to handover — never a call centre.

More about the workshop

What the workshop builds

Six structures, each shaped around how Malaysian gardens are actually used.

We don’t pull configurations off a catalogue. Every structure is sized, jointed and finished for its plot, its sun line and the family that will live around it.

Rectangular timber gazebo with shingle roof on a stone-paved lawn

Rectangular gazebos

The classic format for family dining outside — typically 3.6 × 4.8 m with a pitched shingle roof.

How a project moves

Five steps from your first call to handover keys.

No surprise invoices, no rotating subcontractors. The same project manager walks you through every step, so a question on Monday gets the same answer on Friday.

Listening visit

A 60–90 minute walk of the plot. We measure the garden, the sun line and the things you don’t want to lose — like that frangipani that’s been there twenty years.

Sketch & quote

Within a working week you receive two timber drawings, a per-line bill of materials, and a fixed quote with no hidden ‘variation’ clauses.

Workshop build

Posts, beams and roof framing are jointed and dry-fitted in our PJ workshop. You’re welcome to come and see your structure standing before it ships.

On-site assembly

Two to four installers, depending on scale. Most pergolas finish in one day; pavilions in three to five.

Hand-finish & handover

Final sand, two coats of marine-grade oil and a written aftercare schedule. The warranty starts the day you sign.

Recent work

A small selection from the last 18 months.

What clients say

Quiet praise from gardens around the Klang Valley.

★★★★★

“The hexagonal pavilion was up six days after the dry-fit visit. Joints look better at year three than the older one we replaced did at year one.”

Aishah R.Bukit Damansara, KL
★★★★★

“We had three quotes for a 9-metre pergola. TheStar365 was the only one who walked the slope before quoting and adjusted the post depths. That’s why we picked them.”

Daniel C.Sungai Buloh estate
★★★★★

“The decking has lived through two monsoons and looks the same. The aftercare schedule they sent is the most useful three-page PDF I own.”

Common questions

Answers to what we’re asked the most.

How long from first call to a finished pavilion?

For pergolas, plan around four to six weeks. For pavilions and gazebos, six to ten weeks depending on shingle stock and your site permissions. We schedule installs around weather windows.

Which timber species do you work in?

Default is FSC-certified chengal for posts and beams (it ages beautifully and shrugs off rot), with merbau or balau for decking and slats. We can match an existing palette if you have one.

Do you ship outside Klang Valley?

Yes — most weeks we deliver into Melaka, Penang and Negeri Sembilan. For installs over 250 km from PJ we add a one-night travel allowance to the quote so you see it upfront.

What’s included in the warranty?

Eight years on structural timber and joinery, two years on hardware (bolts, brackets, hidden fixings) and one year on the oil finish. Aftercare visits are scheduled annually for the first three years at no charge.

Can I see something before I commit?

Of course. We keep a sample frame and three live timbers in the workshop in Damansara Utama. Drop in any weekday between 10:00 and 17:00 — coffee’s on us.

How do I pay, and when?

30% deposit at sign-off, 50% on workshop dry-fit, 20% on practical completion. We invoice in MYR and accept FPX, IBG and DuitNow for businesses.

Got a corner of the garden in mind?

Tell us the plot, the use and (roughly) the budget. We’ll come back inside three working days with a sketch you can hold.
